Highlights: The best play of the game was the Lincoln Glen third baseman snagging a shot over third base on one knee and making the long throw to first for the out. The highlight clip was the pop fly that went straight up. The catcher had no idea where it was. The pitcher did. Unfortunately, it had more backspin than the pitcher was prepared for and the ball leaped out of the pitcher's glove directly into the catcher's for the catch, the out, and smiles all around.
Both teams played yesterday and were short their best pitchers. Even so, Lincoln Glen went down 1-2-3 to start the game. Evergreen started well with one run on two hits. Lincoln Glen fared better in the second inning, scoring two runs on three hits. It looked like Evergreen was going to pick up where they left off with a lead off double. Unfortunately, the F-1-2 highlight catch swung the momentum to Lincoln Glen. Lincoln Glen went to bat as if it were hitting practice. Seven hits, twenty batters, three fly balls, and two relief pitchers later, Lincoln Glen had a commanding 16 run lead. Evergreen could only respond with a single. Things calmed down in the fourth. Lincoln Glen scored two runs on two hits. Again, Evergreen could only respond with a single. The fifth and final inning, Lincoln Glen scored three runs on three hits. Evergreen mustered a face saving run on two hits. The game ended on a double play fly ball to the right fielder.
Relief pitchers for Lincoln Glen were Jack Hutchings and Jacob Holder.
Relief pitchers for Evergreen were Bryan Tate and William Wang (89 pitches).

Winners Bracket Game: Hollister / District 9 vs. Los Altos / District 44
In a tense, well-played game between winners bracket teams, Hollister erupted for two runs in the 6th inning and an additional run in the 7th inning, to overtake Los Altos, for a come-from-behind 5 – 3 victory. The Hollister All Stars, District 9 Champs, now advance to the Championship Game scheduled for Wednesday, July 21.
In a battle of brilliant southpaws, Hollister’s Robert Soto and Los Altos’ James Oleson both reached their maximum pitch counts by the 6th inning, with Oleson’s Los Altos All Stars leading 3-2. However, in the top of the 6th inning, Hollister’s Cody Freitas had a two-out, two-run single to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs against the Los Altos bullpen. Dylan Yamasaki’s double in the 7th inning drove in an insurance run, and Hollister came away with the 5-3 win.
Hollister’s Dylan Yamasaki earned player-of-the-game honors, with four hits, two doubles, two RBI, and a fine running catch in left field.
As a result of their heart-breaking loss, the Los Altos All Stars must play an Elimination Bracket game tomorrow, Tuesday, July 20, against the Lincoln Glen All Stars of San Jose. The winner of that game will advance to the Championship Game on Wednesday, July 21, to take on undefeated Hollister.
Game #5Tuesday, July 20, 2010, 6:30 PM
Elimination Bracket Game: Lincoln Glen / District 12 vs. Los Altos / District 44
The Los Altos All Stars earned a ticket to the Section 5 Tournament Championship Game by making quick work of the Lincoln Glen All Stars, pounding out a 13 – 3 win in a game called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. All nine players in the Los Altos starting lineup scored at least one run, as the District 44 champs exploded for six runs in the 2nd inning, four more in the 4th inning, and three clinching runs in the 5th inning.
Only one Los Altos hitter had an extra-base hit in the game, Tyler Morris’ two-run double in the 4th inning. Their well-balanced offense featured ten hits, five bases on balls, and four hit batsmen. Paul Bergavin was the starting and winning pitcher for Los Altos.
In the loss, Lincoln Glen catcher Matt Toscano earned player-of-the-game honors with three hits, three stolen bases, and two runs scored. On defense, Toscano gunned down two Los Altos runners attempting to steal second base.
The relentless Los Altos All Stars advance to tomorrow’s Championship Game vs. Hollister, a re-match of Monday night’s Winners Bracket teams.
